- 2006 – 2015 → ISX CM871
Most Common Isues
1. ECM Power and Communication Issues
- No Start / No Communication – A faulty ECM can prevent the engine from starting or communicating with diagnostic tools.
- Blown Fuses / Voltage Spikes – Electrical surges or unstable voltage can damage ECM circuits.
- Bad Grounding – Corrosion or loose grounds can cause intermittent ECM failures.
2. Injector and Fuel System Problems
- Injector Driver Circuit Failure – Internal ECM faults can cause misfires or injector malfunctions.
- Fuel Pressure Sensor Errors – Incorrect readings can lead to poor performance or excessive fuel consumption.
- Bad Timing or Injection Control – ECM-controlled timing failures can cause rough idling or power loss.
3. Turbocharger & Air Management Issues
- VGT (Variable Geometry Turbo) Actuator Failures – The ECM may fail to control the turbo properly, causing boost issues.
- EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) Faults – Common on ISX CM870, CM871, and CM876 models, leading to excessive soot buildup and poor fuel efficiency.
- Mass Airflow Sensor & MAP Sensor Failures – Incorrect air/fuel ratio readings cause power loss and excessive emissions.
4. DPF & Emission Control Failures (ISX CM871 & CM876)
- DPF Regeneration Problems – The ECM may fail to trigger regen cycles properly, leading to clogged filters.
- DEF System Faults – Issues with the DEF dosing system can cause power derates and check engine lights.
- NOx & O2 Sensor Failures – Incorrect sensor readings can trigger fault codes and reduce performance.
5. Overheating & Cooling System Issues
- Faulty Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor – Causes incorrect temperature readings and potential overheating.
- Fan Clutch Control Failures – The ECM may not properly engage the cooling fan, leading to temperature spikes.
6. ECM Internal Failures
- Corrupted Software / Flashing Issues – Failed ECM reprogramming can brick the module.
- Shorted Internal Components – Water intrusion, vibration, or age-related degradation can cause circuit failures.
- EEPROM / Memory Corruption – Leads to incorrect parameter settings, poor engine operation, or random shutdowns.
7. CAN Bus & Sensor Communication Errors
- J1939 Communication Issues – The ECM may fail to communicate with other modules due to wiring or internal faults.
- Speed Sensor Malfunctions – A faulty speed sensor can cause derates and shifting issues in automated transmissions.
- Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) Failures – Leads to unresponsive acceleration or unexpected power loss.
